After six straight losses, every Kings' game already feels the same

Zero progress as a team.

Every Sacramento Kings game this season comes with a side of deja vu. The same essential thing happens every time, with the only question being how much this team is going to lose by. No one was expecting a winning season, but it would have been nice if the games were at least fun to watch.

The Kings took on the red-hot Grizzlies and got stomped out yet again, this time by a score of 136 to 105. Memphis walked out of this meeting with a record of six and zero, the only unbeaten team left in the league. Sacramento, on the other hand, fell to zero and six, making them officially the worst team.

To be fair, 2026-2027 was never going to be a march to the finals for the Kings. They are in the midst of a rebuild that's still in its earliest stages. On top of that, they are short several players due to injuries. Really, it's just a continuation of what was going on in 2025-2026.

That's probably part of the reason why it all seems so familiar. The problem is that each game feels the same as we run through the same talking points about Acuff's performance, the total absence of team defense, and yet another lackluster outing from the bench. Same old, same old.

Can the Kings at least have fun playing basketball?

Matt George over at Sactown Sports 1140 straight up called this out after the Grizzlies' loss, and he was 100% correct. The same things are happening over and over again. There have been improvements in individual performances, but the team isn't progressing as a unit.

It's not just the defense, either, which is basically nonexistent. There is no cohesive offensive strategy. What little they have is predictable, minimal, and ineffective. It would be both easy and accurate to blame the coaching staff, mainly because the Kings don't lack good players.

The saddest part might be the fact that no one on the Kings' roster looks like they're having fun. Sure, losing doesn't feel good, but it's from the moment they step on the court. And you can bet that Sactown's fans aren't having fun watching this crew basically get through another game.

Dylan Cardwell coming back will help. He's a huge source of positive energy for this team and energizes the crowd. But he can only fix so much. Doug Christie has to try some different rotations and maybe not run his starters so hard they hate basketball. Something has to change.
