The Sacramento Kings have wrapped up the 2025-2026 NBA Season. As bad as people thought it would be, it turned out to be so much worse. That being said, there were a few bright spots, including Dylan Cardwell. A recent post-game interview showed exactly why the Kings are lucky to have him.
Dylan Cardwell is a national treasure. While I'm in the middle of my report, Cardwell comes over and interjects some wisdom.

Kevin John with ABC10 in Northern California was doing a post-game report after the Kings beat the Warriors in Sacramento's final home game of the season. Golden 1 Center was almost completely empty, save for a few techs and workers doing their last tasks after the game.
As it turned out, there was one other person still hanging around, specifically Dylan Cardwell. He wandered over to John in typical Cardwell style and joined him for what turned out to be a surprisingly inspirational interview that was overflowing with positive energy.
If Sactown fans are looking for good vibes leading into next season, watch that interview. Cardwell is incredibly thankful to be in the league at all, which is refreshing, as a lot of players seem to take it for granted. He is grateful to the Kings organization and is hyped for what this group can do next season.
Protect Cardwell at all costs
It's impossible to overstate how important this energy is to the team, the entire franchise, and all of the Kings' fans. Given how tough this season has been and how long it's going to take for the rebuild to take shape, having someone with this kind of connection to the fans is amazing.
Don't let this take anything away from his game, either. In roughly half a season, Cardwell has become the Kings' top defender and offensive rebounder. He is the elite rim protector and shot blocker Sacramento has been missing for the last several seasons. It's a void Domantas Sabonis doesn't fill.
The Kings have Cardwell under contract through the 2028-2029 season, which is a team option. Sacramento's smartest move of the season was changing his contract from a two-way G League to a full NBA contract. And locking him in for a few seasons was even smarter.
Cardwell genuinely enjoys playing basketball and wasn't sure he would ever get a chance to do it in the NBA. Now, it seems crazy considering he's the core of the Kings' defensive rebuild. He is a player Sacramento needs to hang onto at all costs going forward and could be the face of the franchise.
