One of the smartest moves the Sacramento Kings made in the offseason was signing Jonathan Mogbo to a two-way contract. Considering how he's playing in the preseason, the Kings should double down and sign him to a full NBA contract. He could be a huge contributor to the rebuild.

Mogbo was signed 31st overall during the 2024 draft by the Toronto Raptors. He ended up splitting his time between the NBA and the G League over the next two seasons. After the end of the 2025-2026 campaign, the Raptors declined his option and made him an unrestricted free agent.

The Kings scooped him up using one of their two-way spots. He debuted with the franchise as part of the Summer League and received rave reviews from pretty much everyone. The hope was that he would continue that trend in the preseason, which most certainly has been the case.

He didn't play in the first preseason game against the Lakers, but he did get minutes in the second. Mogbo finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Against the Warriors, he collected 12 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and five steals. It was an impressive performance.

Sacramento has room for Mogbo on the main roster

There's no denying how well Mogbo is playing in the preseason. He's shooting 60.7% from the field between his two appearances. On top of that, he has 24 points, 15 rebounds, and seven steals. Even better, Mogbo has a positive +/- in both games, which isn't something many Kings can say.

Yes, it's the preseason, but Mogbo is still delivering for Sacramento at both ends of the court. Keep in mind that the Kings have one main roster berth left to fill, and Mogbo is making one heck of a case for getting that spot. Sacramento needs to lock him down right now before the season gets rolling.

Even if they decide not to do it right away, they do still have Mogbo on a two-way contract. That means he can continue to work with the main roster and the coaching staff. From there, he could make the leap at the 2027 trade deadline, much in the same way Dylan Cardwell did in 2026.

That is, of course, assuming they have an open spot for him at that point. To be frank, the smart move is to pull the trigger on signing Mogbo to the main roster right now. There's no need to wait on a player working this hard and who obviously fits in with this franchise as well as its plans for the future.
