If fans were hoping for a less savage schedule for the Sacramento Kings this season, prepare to be disappointed. Once again, the Kings are going to be going through it in 2026-2027 with multiple meetings in short periods of time against some of the toughest teams in the league.
The 2025-2026 schedule played a big part of why last season was so terrible for the Kings. Sure, an absurd number of injuries, a grossly imbalanced roster, and borderline incompetent coaching didn't help. Still, you cannot ignore the absurdities of the schedule the NBA threw at Sacramento.
They faced the Timberwolves four times, the Nuggets four times, and the Thunder three times, all before Christmas 2025. And it's not like their situation got any better in the New Year as that schedule just kept hammering them throughout the season with long road trips against tough teams.
To be fair to the NBA, the Kings were fifth worst club in the league last season. Basically every game they played was against a team that was better than them. Still, they had a lot of matches against the top teams in the NBA, which seems rather cruel to the Kings in retrospect.
2026-2027 is going to be another tough slog for Sacramento
While the Kings are in the process of building something better, they are not on the level of the Spurs or Thunder. Unfortunately for Sacramento, they face both of those teams four times each throughout the season. They're spread out a bit better, though three Spurs games are before Christmas.
Making matters worse is the fact that the Kings only get teams like the Bulls, Nets, and Wizards, who they should be able to beat, twice this season. On the upside, they do get to take on the Jazz three times as well as the Pelicans four times. Hopefully, that should lead to some wins.
There's also the two missing games from the Emirates Cup to consider. They won't be announced until the cup semi-finalists are known. Last year, that led to one additional game against the Nuggets and another against the Wolves. Unsurprisingly, both meetings were losses for Sacramento.
The 2026-2027 schedule isn't the worst the Kings have ever faced, but it isn't going to be a cakewalk. But iron sharpens iron, meaning Sacramento needs to face the best if they want to be the best. Easy victories over weaker teams isn't going to build these rookies and sophomores into contenders.
