The Washington Wizards pulled off the unexpected over the weekend and walked away from the lottery with the number one pick. They've indicated that a trade is possible, potentially opening a very real window for the Sacramento Kings to finally move Domantas Sabonis off their books.

Sacramento went into the lottery in the number five spot and had hopes of moving up in the draft. Instead, they dropped two spots, which gives them the seventh pick. That's not surprising, as the odds have indicated that exact scenario would happen since the end of the regular season.

While Kingston Flemings is being highlighted by various mock drafts as the Kings' most likely target, there are several other names they could go with. The assumption is that Sacramento will try to get a new point guard. That being said, Scott Perry has been clear that they want talent over position.

In total, six teams will draft before the Kings, and anything could happen in those picks. It's also important to keep in mind that the draft doesn't happen until the end of June, and a lot can change in that time. It seems like the Wizards may have designs on making moves, which is good for the Kings.

Moving on from Domantas Sabonis

After getting the number one pick, the Wizards have said that they're open to offers and that their rebuild plans are not tied solely to it. On top of that, reports are increasingly indicating that Anthony Davis wants out of Washington. He allegedly has no interest in being part of a rebuild.

That's where the Kings come in. They have the seventh pick in the first round and a center they want to move. Naturally, they wouldn't be trading for Davis. They have all the bigs they need in Maxime Raynaud, Dylan Cardwell, and Precious Achiuwa. Plus, Davis's contract is crazy expensive.

The Wizards have been interested in Sabonis in the past, and he would bring the rebounding and scoring they need. If Davis leaves the Wizards, the Kings could and should propose a trade that sends Sabonis and their seventh pick to Washington in exchange for the number one pick.

A lot has to happen for this to work out, but it is doable. The Wizards might not see the number one pick as integral to their rebuild process, but the Kings need the best possible player they can get out of this draft. Moving Sabonis at the same time would be icing on the cake.
