Could Kylan Boswell be the Kings' new point guard?

At least a backup point guard, if nothing else.

The Sacramento Kings are on the verge of three monumental decisions in the 2026 NBA Draft. Who they choose to pick could sink the rebuild or elevate it to new heights. No pressure, of course. Kylan Boswell would be a solid overall addition to the roster, not to mention a new point guard to develop.

Keeping in mind that anything is possible when teams start trading draft picks, the Kings currently have one first-round pick and two second-round picks. That gives them three chances to get new talent to work with in the rebuild. Any one of them could end up being a league superstar.

So far, the conventional thinking has the Kings using that first-round pick to select Darius Acuff Jr., Kingston Flemings, Mikel Brown Jr., or possibly even Keaton Wagler. The great thing about this draft is that there are so many good choices, especially for teams with a pick in the top ten like the Kings.

Just to make the point again, I personally am a huge proponent of Sacramento using their number seven pick to go with Yaxel Lendeborg. He is a well-seasoned, highly versatile forward who just won a National Championship with Michigan. But I seem to be the only one pushing for that.

Boswell is definitely worth the Kings' consideration

An interesting option for Sacramento would be Kylan Boswell, a name that didn't appear anywhere on the FanSided mock draft from right after the NCAA withdrawal deadline. That doesn't matter, as he would make a great second-round pick or potentially an undrafted signing like Dylan Cardwell.

Boswell is recognized as an incredible lockdown defender. His point-of-attack defense is boosted strongly by his lower center of gravity and quick lateral movement, shutting down opposing guards and ball handlers without fouling. He's as smart as he is fast on defense with impeccable reads.

He also brings strong leadership to the court, complete with the intangibles it takes to be a real floor general. They are the type of qualities that can't be taught, only encouraged and developed over time. All of that being said, Boswell is a solid scorer, but his shot does need some development.

The Kings aren't projected to use either of their second-round picks on Boswell, and that's not likely to change. But he could be a great guard for the team, one worth keeping an eye on through the draft and beyond. He has real NBA potential and would be worth a two-way contract.
