Sacramento Kings making calls for Raptors All-Star
By Logan Struck
Amid the 2023 NBA offseason, the Sacramento Kings are headlining many different rumors. Due to a draft night trade that sent Richaun Holmes to Dallas, the Kings have the second most cap space in the NBA. As a team ready to win now, Sacramento should look to make a splash this offseason and acquire a star to pair with All-NBA teammates De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis.
While the Sacramento Kings can look to sign a big name in free agency, they can also look to the trade block to acquire another star. The Kings have been on the rise since trading Tyrese Haliburton for Domantas Sabonis in February of 2022. Another substantial deal like that one could put them in championship contention.
Reports suggest the Sacramento Kings have contacted the Raptors with interest in Pascal Siakam.
Michael Grange (via Sportsnet) reported that Sacramento is among the six teams that have made calls about the availability of the Raptors All-Star. While the Kings have been said to be interested in Siakam’s teammate, OG Anunoby, the Raptors’ intentions with the star duo are unknown.
OG Anunoby might be a better fit for Sacramento’s lineup, but Pascal Siakam’s skill is undeniable. The 29-year-old forward is coming off his 7th NBA season averaging 24.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 0.9 steals per game with 48/32/77 shooting splits on his way to an All-Star game appearance.
Coming off a season with career-highs in points and assists per game, Siakam is certainly ready to play for a winning team after the Raptors failed to make the 2023 playoffs.
Pascal Siakam was a big part of the 2019 Raptors squad that won the championship and could potentially help a Kings team get to that point. The biggest question around Siakam is how much it would take to trade for him. Toronto values Siakam more than anyone else on the roster, as it would take a lot of assets even to have conversations with the Raptors about him.
Would it be worth it to trade for Pascal Siakam?
While we are unsure what a trade package for Siakam would look like, we can assume Toronto would want a Davion Mitchell and Kevin Huerter combo or rising star Keegan Murray with multiple future first-round draft picks. The Raptors are in a confusing stage, where they are not good enough to compete but not bad enough to rebuild, so Siakam’s price could increase depending on what direction they want to go.
Pascal Siakam is a terrific player with a vast skillset that would help out any team competing for a championship. The 6’8″ forward is a two-time All-Star and All-NBA, as he is in the handful of proven stars across the league.
Siakam would be a great addition to Sacramento’s lineup, but trading for him is unrealistic for the Kings and nothing Kings fans should be looking forward to.
