Here are three reasons why we think the Sacramento Kings will be able to defeat the Philadelphia 76ers tonight at Golden 1 Center.

The Sacramento Kings will play host to the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night in an inter-conference battle at Golden 1 Center. Given the current state of the standings behind the 8th and final playoff spot, this contest is certainly a bigger game for Sacramento than it is for Philadelphia.

Luckily for the Kings, there is a handful of factors that are playing in their favor. Should they come away with a victory, they will solidify their spot in the standings and live to play another day as the 9th seed.

Here are three reasons why we think the Kings will be victorious tonight:

Reason #1: Kings Momentum

There are few NBA teams that are hotter than the Sacramento Kings right now. They have won 6 of their last 7 contests and 12 of 17 since January 24th. Over that span they have beaten the Clippers twice and avenged losses to Miami, San Antonio, and Memphis along the way.

While their victories outside of the Clippers games are not necessarily against marquee teams, they are beating everyone they should. The Kings’ five losses since late January are against the Thunder (x2), Lakers, Bucks, and Mavericks, all shoe-in playoff teams.

The Kings find themselves in a position they didn’t think they would be in just a month ago, and the enticing reward of a playoff berth is likely to light a spark under this hungry franchise. Many of the veteran players on the roster have participated in the postseason before, but much of the young core is still waiting for their first opportunity. Even if they miss the playoffs by a game or two, it will be nice to see the young guys step up during the most important stretch of the season.

If Sacramento is able to come out of tonight’s game with a win, then they will ride in to Portland with even more momentum for a huge game on Saturday night.
