The last two games for the Sacramento Kings have ended in victories, but they had quite an adventure getting in to the win column in both games.

The Sacramento Kings played host to the Pistons and Wizards over the last few days, and both games ended up being roller coasters of emotion.

In Sunday’s game against Detroit, the Kings endured their worst first quarter of the season, allowing the Pistons to jump out to an 18-1 lead that eventually grew to 21 points. The score was 31-16 after the first frame. Sacramento began chipping away and found themselves down by just one point at halftime. They would take their first lead during the third quarter and never looked back, defeating a tanking Piston’s team that was without Derrick Rose for the final 33 minutes of game action.

Tuesday’s game against the Wizards was essentially the opposite. The Kings came out on fire, shooting 16 for 24 from the field in the first quarter, which led to their best half of basketball of the season. Sacramento scored 76 points in the first two frames by shooting over 60 percent from the field and held a commanding 27 point lead at the half.

The Wizards would make a comeback that few of us have ever seen. There have been bigger deficits, no doubt. But in less than 10 minutes of game time, the Kings’ lead had been erased and the Wizards knotted the game at 90 on a Davis Bertans three-pointer.

The Kings pulled away a bit during the fourth quarter and eventually won the game by a score of 133-126. While it seemed to be a foregone conclusion early on that Sacramento would be victorious over Washington, the Wizards certainly made things interesting for the fans inside Golden 1 Center.

While neither team is exactly a power house and were both on long road trips, the Kings will take wins in any way that they can get them at this point. After a season of letdown and disappointment in which losing to inferior teams has become almost normal, any win is a good win in Sacramento.

Things won’t get any easier for the Kings and their playoff aspirations. They’ll play two huge games against fellow 8th seed-chasers Portland and New Orleans over the next week, with games against Philadelphia and Toronto sprinkled in between.
