Shamorie Ponds was a favorite potential pick of mine, and he went undrafted. The Sacramento Kings desperately need a backup point guard and Ponds would’ve been a great fit.

Not picking up Shamorie Ponds in the draft (or free agency) was a big miss by the Sacramento Kings. While it was unlikely they’d bring him in after they cancelled his workout ahead of the draft, Ponds with the 55th (or 60th) pick would’ve been a steal.

He’s since signed with the Houston Rockets as an undrafted free agent, but that doesn’t lessen the sting of the Kings missing out on him. Even if Guy, James or Marinkovic turn out to be all-stars, Ponds seems much more capable of contributing right away, and for a team chasing their first playoff berth in over a decade that’s important.

Even more important, is that he’s a good player at a position of need for the Sacramento Kings. Behind De’Aaron Fox, the Kings have nobody at point guard. Both Frank Mason III and Yogi Ferrell showed they weren’t capable of handling it and picking up a guy with excellent scoring and decent play making ability would have been huge.
