Sacramento Kings: Who Was The Biggest Surprise This Season?
By Rafe Wong
Buddy Hield
This might shock some people as Buddy Hield has been one of the best players during the Kings’ rebuild. But the production he showcased this season was something I did not see coming.
For the season, all 82 games, Buddy averaged around 21 points and five rebounds per contest while making around 46% of his shots from the floor, 43% from the three-point line, and 89% from the free-throw line.
Throughout his campaign, Buddy established himself as one of the best perimeter shooters in the league today and his potential to become a powerhouse scorer and All-Star player in his future.
I always thought Buddy would become a valuable piece to the Kings’ young core, but to see him reach such great heights in a short amount of time is exciting to see. It really shows how much he has invested in improving his game.
When envisioning the young Kings, I viewed Buddy as a potential sharpshooter for the team. To give a better perspective, I thought Buddy would play a similar role to what J.J. Redick played during the Los Angeles Clippers’ “glory days” a few years back.
But after seeing Buddy perform this season, he has surpassed those expectations and has now turned the conversation into whether an All-Star appearance is in his future.
