After an impressive 5-1 record in their recent homestand, the Sacramento Kings mean business for a playoff run.

The six-game homestand was the tell-tale mark that the Sacramento Kings can make a run at the postseason. With a couple of big-name players added to their roster, the Kings are putting the pieces together for a serious run for a playoff berth. The Los Angeles Clippers and Lakers are officially on notice.

Sacramento will throw everything they got to do it. The front office, coaches, and players are all on the same page: Make the playoffs to end the longest postseason drought in the league. The homestand was a pivotal stretch that would let us know the odds of the Kings making it. With Vlade Divac making smart moves to bolster the roster for this year and beyond, the odds just got a lot better.

Vlade’s Trades Sends Message For Playoffs

The acquisition of Harrison Barnes and Alec Burks showed the Kings’ front office and Vivek collectively knew they had to add talent. The Western conference is loaded with some of the best teams. The Warriors have five All-Star players on their roster. This is a haunted matchup for anyone in the first round. The Kings’ improvement with Barnes makes them my favorite over the Lakers and the Clippers.

The All-Star break will give the Kings’ new members a chance to catch up with the playbook. Then Sactown must get back to business with 25 games remaining. Fourteen of the games they play have a winning record. The Lakers’ schedule has 15 games on the plus .500 side of wins. Then, finally, the Clippers have 13 games left with opponents that have a winning record. It gives the Kings the chance to choose their own destiny. Win games and you are in the playoffs.

Final Thoughts On A Playoff Run

So many positives already in this season that if it ended today fans would have no complaints. We still have plenty to cheer about. It has been so long that the Kings have been relevant for playoff talk that I am lost for words.

The season is far from over, but Sacramento could be the surprise of the postseason. If the Kings stay focused while waiting for Harrison Barnes to blossom, as well as Alec Burks and Corey Brewer collectively doing their jobs, then the purple and white can control their playoff future.
