After playing five games in the NBA, is it time for the Sacramento Kings to change Marvin Bagley III’s role with the team?

Five games are in the books for the Sacramento Kings as they hold a record of 2-3. As expected, ups and downs have been on display from the purple and white so far in their campaign. But let us take a look at the positives from the season so far, specifically Marvin Bagley III.

At least to my surprise, Bagley has been an encouraging sight for the Kings and their fans. In the five appearances he has made, he is averaging 14.2 points, seven rebounds, and 1.2 blocks a game while making 58.3% of his shots from the floor. He also has a Player Efficiency Rating (PER) of 20.75 which is ranked fifth amongst his teammates.

I always thought that Bagley would be a good player for the Kings when drafted, but his immediate impact so far has been a pleasant surprise. Especially since he has came off the bench in every game. So with that being said, should Bagley’s role with the Kings change going forth? Specifically, has he earned the right to be in the starting lineup for the Kings?

Should Bagley Start?

In my opinion, the answer is yes. Although the Kings are only five games into the young season, Bagley has proven to be one of the best players on the team. I think the lineup going forward should be De’Aaron Fox at the point, Buddy Hield at two-guard, Nemanja Bjelica at the three, Bagley at the four, and Willie Cauley-Stein at center. Have your best guys start the game, Dave Joerger.

Not only has Bagley proven to be one of the more efficient players for Sacramento, but I think he will fit in nicely with the starting five. With his athleticism and effort, it gives the Kings more athletes to run the floor early on offense and to improve their defense as well. Another weapon for De’Aaron Fox to use.

Final Thoughts

It is a small sample size, but Marvin Bagley III has been playing well and deserves a spot in the starting five. The Kings drafted Bagley in the hopes that he can be part of the franchise’s main core going forward, so why not have him with the starters now to see what he has got? Plus, it would not be a gift for Marvin to play with the starting five, he has truly earned it.
