Sacramento Kings: California Classic a hit: Adam Silver talks expansion
By Tyler Watts
The Sacramento Kings hosted the first ever California Classic Summer League this year and it went over so well that Commissioner Adam Silver wants to expand the event.
The Sacramento Kings have had an eventful offseason already. It started with moving up to second overall in the draft lottery. Then, three players opted into their player options. Next, the Kings drafted Marvin Bagley III with that number two pick. Now summer league is still happening as the organization searches for free agents to fill out their roster.
The Kings hosted a summer league called the California Classic for the first time this year. The event featured four teams and gave each team three games before heading to the Las Vegas Summer League. Things were a massive success as the Golden 1 Center filled. It was some superb action for each team involved. There was even a concert from Lil Jon at the event.
Silver wants expansion
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver held a media address in Las Vegas on July 10. He had plenty of talking points during the address, and one was the California Classic. Listen to what he said for yourself in the Tweet below courtesy of NBC Sports Kings.
The California Classic could turn into something similar to the Orlando Summer League in year’s past. That featured eight teams, and each team played four games. It will be interesting to see how this story develops in the coming weeks.

The best part of the news is the California Classic will be back next year, and Kings fans will pack the Golden 1 Center again. That alone is exciting.
