Iman Shumpert has decided to opt into his player option which will keep him with the Sacramento Kings for the 2018-2019 NBA season.

It was expected but now official that Iman Shumpert will be a Sacramento King for the 2018-2019 season. Not too long ago, Shams Charania, NBA Insider for Yahoo Sports, reported that Shumpert has decided to opt into his player option that is worth around $11 million.

My Thoughts

It is good to know that Shumpert will be part of the Kings’ roster for the upcoming season. Throughout his seven-year career, Shump has developed a reputation for being a lively defender which is great considering the Kings’ perimeter defense has been poor for the last couple of years.

Shumpert has also shown recently that he is excited about the Kings’ rebuild, so it is cool to see a player motivated to be part of the Sacramento franchise. I think most Kings fans can agree it is a rare sighting.

With Shumpert officially on the roster, him, De’Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Frank Mason III are the guards who will definitely be on the Kings next season. Hopefully, Shump is able to show and teach the young guys how to defend. If successful, the Kings will be a lot more competitive compared to this season.
