The NBA Draft Lottery took place on May 15, and the Sacramento Kings locked in their pick.  Continue reading for more information.

NBA Draft Lottery night came and went on Tuesday, May 15.  The Sacramento Kings entered full of hope of moving into the top spot.  It was only a 5.3 percent chance, but the possibility was there.  De’Aaron Fox represented the Kings on stage and the excitement built quickly.  Here is what happened.

Kings select

The teams were drawn from envelops starting with the 14th overall selection going first.  Each name got Kings fans hearts racing a little faster.  Sacramento moved into the top three and Kings fans were jumping for joy already.  Then, came the third overall pick envelop at it was not the Kings.  Sacramento will pick second in the draft, though!

Moving up is fantastic and the Kings will definitely have another fantastic young player come June 21.

Final thoughts

The Sacramento Kings will pick at 2nd overall in the 2018 NBA Draft.  That should allow the Kings to add another talented piece to their young core.  Plenty of high-quality options will be available at that selection.  It will be up to GM Vlade Divac and the front office to choose the right player.

Sacramento needs to add a player capable of starting and commanding significant minutes at the four.  With Skal Labissiere struggling, that has been a weakness on the roster since the DeMarcus Cousins trade.  Perhaps that could be the Kings target at pick 2 or maybe a move Sacramento makes in free agency.
