Frank Mason was out for the Sacramento Kings April 9 game against the Spurs with a sore heel.  Continue reading for more about his injury.

Frank Mason is fitting in well as the Sacramento Kings reserve point guard.  The rookie has shown he belongs in the NBA and looks to be ready to man that role for years to come.

The Kings got the news nobody wants to hear as the season winds down.  Below is a Tweet from Jason Jones regarding Mason’s status for Monday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs.

The injury

Frank Mason’s absence left the Kings short-handed at the point.  De’Aaron Fox played 38 minutes and shot one of five in the fourth as Sacramento blew a six point lead after three quarters to lose 98-85 in San Antonio.

Mason’s injury does not sound overly serious, but I am slightly worried.  He played limited minutes in every game this month and perhaps his heel was part of the reason.  Consider Mason questionable at best for Wednesday’s season finale against the Rockets.

Going forward

The final game is not crucial to the Kings, but the worry with Mason is this injury going forward.  Remember, the team said Mason had a heel injury in January before he missed almost seven weeks with a plantar fascia tear.  That was to his right foot, and now his left one is bothering him.  Hopefully, this does not become a trend for Mason.  I will be a little worried that this crops up again next season.

Final thoughts

Frank Mason missed Monday’s contest against the Spurs.  The Kings conclude their season on Wednesday and Mason likely sits that game as well.  Stay tuned for updates on his injury as they become available.  There is no reason to force him into the team’s final contest unless he is 100 percent healthy.
