SACRAMENTO, CA - DECEMBER 29: Frank Mason III

Frank Mason turned 24 on April 3 but had a day to forget on the court.  This article takes a look at his performance and future with the Sacramento Kings.

Frank Mason is the fourth of the rookies drafted by the Sacramento Kings in 2017 NBA Draft.  Do not sleep on the second round selection, though.  Mason turned 24 years old on April 3.  Below is the Kings official Tweet to Mason about his special day.

In honor of his birthday, we take a look at his performance against the Phoenix Suns and his future with the Kings.  Without further ado, let us roll right into it.

Lackluster performance

Coach Joerger played a significant role in making a birthday for Mason to forget on the court.  The Suns defeated Sacramento 97-94, and Mason only played 13 minutes.  If falling to a team in the midst of a historic losing streak was not enough, his playing time was forgettable.  Mason was zero of five from the field with two rebounds, an assist, and one block plus two free throws made.  Mason also earned a minus ten in the plus/minus category.  Hopefully, it was an otherwise Happy Birthday for Frank Mason because his on-court performance was no reason to write home.

Future

That lackluster performance aside, Mason looks entrenched as the backup point guard for years to come.  Mason is a skilled facilitator and 3-point shooter.  He will always struggle on defense given his size and length, but Mason has other abilities.  Running the second unit and being a leader on the court appear to be strengths for “The Phenom” and I expect him to be an above average reserve for Sacramento.  Expect Mason to play a 15-20 minutes per game role for the organization for the foreseeable future.

Final thoughts

Happy Birthday goes out to Frank Mason.  We may be a little late, but it has been a joy watching you play both in college and with the Kings.  Hopefully, there are many great years to come.
