The Sacramento Kings were shut out of the All-Star rosters in 2018, but expect a few players to be part of the weekend.

The Sacramento Kings picked up a victory on Tuesday night over the Magic but lost in the All-Star balloting.  The reserves announcement came out and just like with the starters nary a King on the list.  The news should not come as a huge surprise, but let us take a look at where Sacramento could be a part of All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles.

Rising Stars

The Kings have a few players that could take part in the Mountain Dew Kickstart Rising Stars game on Friday, Feb. 16.  The rosters will be announced on Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. ET on NBA TV, but Buddy Hield participated in the 2017 game.  I would not be surprised at all to see the second year pro lace up his sneakers again.

Rookies Bogdan Bogdanovic and De’Aaron Fox should both play in the game as well.  Fox is almost a lock as the fifth overall pick in last summer’s draft.  He also brings a level of excitement to the game because of his profile and blazing speed.  Bogdanovic is nearly the most experienced rookie in the league, but he certainly makes the game on merit.

3-point contest

Buddy Hield should be part of the JBL 3-point Contest this year.  I wrote at the start of 2018 about the Kings needing Hield to shoot more from 3-point distance because he is so efficient at it.  Hield is still sixth in the league in 3-point percentage.  Hopefully, the organizers agree with me, and we will see Hield shooting on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Surprise entry

There are always a few shockers when it comes to the Saturday showcases.  Do not count out seeing a surprise King taking part on Saturday evening.

Final thoughts

No Sacramento Kings will feature in the main event of the All-Star game, but they figure to play a role in the weekend’s festivities.  Stay tuned as the announcements are coming up fast.
