The 2017 NBA Draft lottery takes place on May 16.  Today, we will take a look at the Sacramento Kings’ chances of winning the lottery.

Tonight has the potential to be a franchise altering night for all fourteen non-playoff teams.  To win the NBA Draft lottery and have the right to select first overall is a huge right especially in this draft class.  Each team will be waiting with bated breath as the selections roll in this evening.

Today, we will take a look at the Sacramento Kings chances of winning the lottery and moving up from their current pick.

Chances of winning

The Sacramento Kings can win the lottery tonight but have a zero percent chance of selecting first overall.  They traded the Philadelphia 76ers the right to swap picks, so no chance of being the top selector this season for Sacramento.

Odds of moving up

The Sacramento Kings had the eighth-worst record in the NBA and therefore currently slot in at that pick.  The Kings have 6.1% chance of moving up to second overall and a 9.9% chance to select in the top five selections according to ESPN.

Final Thoughts

Not only are the Sacramento Kings hoping that 9.9% turns out to be a reality tonight, but they are rooting against the New Orleans Pelicans moving into the top three.  The Kings own the rights to the Pelicans pick from the DeMarcus Cousins trade as long as the selection is outside the top three.  Sacramento has a 96.0% chance of that happening.

As you can see, it is an important night for the Sacramento Kings so please tune into ESPN around 8 pm Eastern and enjoy the drama.  Hopefully, the Kings end up with two top ten selections and change their franchise for the better on June 22.
