Will the Real Sacramento Kings Show Up In Oakland Tonight?

Every time it looks like this team is starting to take a few steps forward, it takes one major step back. Wednesday night’s 103-100 loss to the Brooklyn Nets was a major step back.

The Kings were able to mount a 2nd half comeback to make the final score look respectable, but a lot of that boils down the fact that the Nets just aren’t very good. The Kings did not play well for a majority of this game, and they knew it. Check out the quotes from Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins after the game. They know what they need to do, but it just isn’t happening. That has to be frustrating. I don’t know what the answer is.

If it makes anyone feel any better, the Nets lost to the Clippers last night 123-84. It didn’t make you feel better? Ok. Sorry.

It’s worth noting that Ramon Sessions returned to the lineup against the Nets. He led the Kings bench in minutes on his first night back, which I found both interesting and discouraging. Maybe they are trying to prove to the league that he’s healthy enough to trade for? We’ll see.

  • The Kings are in Oakland tonight to face the Golden State Warriors. To say this could get ugly would be an understatement.

I’m half joking. The Kings actually have a pretty decent history of playing up or down to their competition. I’m not expecting a great performance out of the Kings tonight, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see this team play at a higher level than they did against the Nets.

With that being said, the Kings have already lost to the Warriors twice this season by an average of 19 points. If you are easily discouraged, this might be a decent game to skip.

If you do watch the game tonight, keep a close eye on Draymond Green. This is pure speculation on my part, but Green will be a free agent at the end of the season, and I would bet anything on the Kings making him a serious offer this offseason.

He’s exactly what they’ve been looking for next to Cousins from an offensive standpoint, and despite the fact that he is smaller than your average power forward, he is a very capable defender.

On a lighter note, DeMarcus Cousins wasn’t voted in as an All-Star starter, which shouldn’t really come as a shock to anyone. The voting system is extremely flawed. But with Kobe Bryant and LaMarcus Aldridge out of the picture due to injuries, I would be a little surprised if Cousins doesn’t get named as a reserve. We know he’s played at that level all season, and now we’ll find out if anyone else was paying attention.

That’ll do it for today. Be sure to check back in to A Royal Pain after tonight’s game for our postgame coverage.
