The Three Kings of the Night: The Ty Isn’t Working Edition

I think we are at the official stage where we can say that Ty isn’t working. Another thing we can officially say is why on earth did the Kings fire Michael Malone?

  • I think we have already answered the second part of that last sentence, so this intro to the Three Kings is going to be about the first part. Tyrone Corbin had a failed record as coach with the Utah Jazz. Sure, he led them to the playoffs one season, but it was an eight seed they barley sneaked into, and got swept by the San Antonio Spurs.

After that, Ty has been a lame duck ever since, so why on earth is he the coach for the Kings for the rest of this season? All signs point to the rest of a season that was once promising being a disaster.

Where do I start? He is getting out-coached every night, the defense is horrible, and the offense is in even worse shambles. Corbin just doesn’t know how to lead this roster, and it is starting to show on the court.

The Kings should had easily beat the Celtics yesterday afternoon, but instead, poor defense and even poorer offense lead to the Kings pooping out a stinker on the Celtics parquet floor. But despite the horribleness being displayed by the Kings and their coach, there were some standouts from yesterday, so let’s award them, shall we?

    One King- DeMarcus Cousins

Did we ever expect for Boogie to get just One King? Well, he did yesterday, and although he did produce another double-double, it was only for 11 points and 11 rebounds, and on top of that, he had four turnovers. The Kings are not going to win many games with our main weapon just scoring 11 points. But he did have this sick move though:

    Two Kings- Darren Collision

Collision gets Two Kings because he was one of the rare Kings that actually bothered to show up in Boston yesterday, He scored 14 points, and dished out five assist, but his three turnovers hurt, and he has to work on protecting the ball better.

    Three Kings- Carl Landry

And the Three Kings of the Night goes to Landry, who displayed the only heart the Kings had on the court yesterday, going for 14 points, and grabbing five rebounds. He was battling by himself yesterday, and hopefully he will not have to do the same in Minnesota tonight.

Naughty King of the Night- The lack of effort by the Kings

There were plenty of candidates for the Naughty King of the Night, but I decided to give it to the whole team (sans Collison and Landry) for their sheer lack of effort against the Celtics yesterday. It seemed like they celebrated New Year’s a tad too early, and they played dearly for it yesterday afternoon. This has become a hallmark of the (hopefully) brief Ty era.
