Yet another Kings' player is out for the rest of the season

It's becoming a Shakespearean tragedy in Sacramento.

It's a good thing the season is almost over, because the Sacramento Kings barely have a team to field at this point. Drew Eubanks will miss the rest of the season with a torn UCL in his left thumb, alongside multiple other players. Fortunately, the Kings weren't actually trying to win.

Going into the 2025-2026 season, the expectations for the Kings were almost impossibly low. They had a rookie head coach, a brand new front office, a severely imbalanced roster, and at least two of the worst contracts in the league holding them back from making real changes.

Somehow, the situation was even worse than expected, due in no small part to the almost unbelievable number of injuries the team has sustained. It all got started with a preseason injury to Keegan Murray that kept him out for a few weeks, then snowballed from there.

Domantas Sabonis missed two months, came back for a couple of weeks, and is now out for the rest of the season. Murray is now out for the third time this season, and likely isn't coming back. On top of that, De'Andre Hunter was injured in his second game with the team and is out as well.

The hits just keep coming in Sacramento

As it stands right now, De'Ander Hunter, Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, probably Keegan Murray, and now Drew Eubanks are all shut down for the season. If that's not enough, Malik Monk, Nique Clifford, and Devin Carter are all dealing with injuries, as well.

The Kings are now regularly hitting the court with eight or nine players, yet somehow winning more games than usual, which is an odd twist. Regardless, Eubanks being out for the season is a sad exclamation point on an incredibly difficult season for Sacramento and their fans.

With the season coming to an end and the postseason wildly out of reach, the Kings have to start planning for the future. For now, the focus has to be on a good showing in the 2026 NBA Draft, which is coming up rather quickly. The front office has three picks to work with and some great options.

This is the one time losing a lot could actually be remotely helpful. Being one of the worst three teams in the league gives the Kings a better chance at getting a top lottery draft pick. All these injuries have been rough, but they will hopefully help lead Sacramento to something better in the long run.
