Last season, after setting records for his double-double prowess, Domantas Sabonis finished the year eighth in MVP voting. The year before that, Sabonis finished seventh in that award race. Where is he projected to place this year? And does he have a legitimate chance of winning the league's most prestigious individual award?

Where does Domantas Sabonis rank in the preseason MVP ranking?

It doesn't seem like the NBA world has much faith in Sabonis' chances of bringing home the award. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Sabonis' MVP odds are tied for the 24th-highest chances with Jimmy Butler and Paul George (two players who tend to miss a lot of time in the regular season) at +25000.

FanDuel even has him behind fringe All-Stars like Tyrese Maxey and Paolo Banchero and his own teammate, De'Aaron Fox (more on this in just a second).

Will Domantas Sabonis win the MVP award?

I have to admit. I am a little shocked that sportsbooks aren't higher on Sabonis, especially considering he's finished in the top 10 in votes in each of the last two years. Sabonis is also a very good regular season player, and he hardly ever misses a game (three games missed in the last two years).

However, it would take a real miracle for the Kings' big man to win MVP.To be honest, I don't even think he is the best player on his own team (hint: that player is Fox), let alone in the league (to be fair, Fox also shouldn't win MVP). So, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it if I was you.

This goes without saying, but just because Sabonis isn't an MVP-caliber player doesn't mean he isn't a great player or that the Kings can't have a successful season. After all, only one player can earn the Most Valuable Player in the league honors.
