The Sacramento Kings have hopefully started to solve their point guard issues with rookie Darius Acuff Jr. and the returning Ben Simmons. But the Kings still need more long-term planning, and that could include Sylvain Francisco from the EuroLeague, an aggressive, high-scoring point guard.
Francisco was born in France, growing up playing basketball in Paris. He spent his high school career on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean in Florida, where he played with a few different institutions. Despite receiving NCAA offers, Francisco chose to return to Europe to continue his career.
That leg of his journey started in 2017, leading to him playing for teams in Spain, Greece, Germany, and Lithuania. Francisco has won multiple titles and was named the German Cup MVP in 2024, the LKL Finals MVP in 2025, and was named to the All-EuroLeague First Team in 2026.
During his extensive EuroLeague run, Francisco made himself available for the NBA draft in 2019. Obviously, he wasn't selected, as he never arrived in the NBA, though he did carve out an impressive career nonetheless. Given his EuroLeague success, it may be time for the NBA to reconsider him.
The Kings could use a point guard like Francisco
Sacramento's rebuild is slowly inching forward. The 2026-2027 season will be interesting because they drafted Acuff as their new starting point guard, then brought Simmons back to the NBA as his backup. There are still concerns, as Simmons remains a high injury risk and Acuff needs support.
That's where Francisco comes in. He's an established point guard who is firmly in his prime at the age of 28. The core of his game is being an efficient three-level scorer who acts as the offensive engine of every team he's on. His aggressive style generates serious gravity, leading to excellent playmaking.
At 6'1" and 180 pounds, he's on the smaller side for a point guard, particularly on defense, where his size can be a bit of a detriment. That being said, Francisco more than makes up for that with his relentless hustle and quick hands. The man can be an absolute pest on defense.
Francisco would be a great asset to the Kings. Acuff would remain the starter and the focus of the rebuild structure. But having someone the caliber of Francisco in the mix as a rotational point guard would be a clutch level of security for Sacramento. That's planning for the future.
