At this point in his career, Russell Westbrook making history is starting to become commonplace. Every other game, he sets a new record or rises up the ranks of another all-time list. In the Sacramento Kings' recent win over the Heat, he moved up a spot on the all-time steals list.
There are a lot of parts of Westbrook's game that get a lot of attention from fans and the media. He's an incredible scorer, rebounder, and point guard. Now in his 18th season, he's accumulated a list of records and accolades so long that only the greatest players of all time even compare.
Since he is in the last couple of seasons of his career and playing them with the Kings, they get to benefit from being part of his history-making moments. It's actually caused fans to become rather attached to Westbrook quite quickly. That's not hard to understand, being that he's so lovable.
Russell Westbrook been caught stealing
Over the first few weeks, Westbrook has moved up the leaderboard in categories like all-time scoring. He's close to becoming the highest-scoring point guard in NBA history. He's only the second player to have 25,000+ points and 10,000+ rebounds, with LeBron James being the first.
During the course of the 2025-2026 season, Russell has picked up 31 steals, which is rather impressive. Even more impressive is the fact that he collected four steals in the Kings' most recent victory over the Heat. That played a big part in Sacramento's overall dominance.
Those four steals were enough to push him into the 14th spot on the NBA All-Time Steals Leader list. The previous player to hold that spot was the Answer himself, Allen Iverson. Climbing up these lists is one thing, but who a player passes along the way makes it even more special.
Westbrook's growing legend is important to the Kings
At this point, Westbrook has 1,986 steals to his name. Being that he is not done playing yet, making it 2,000 steals seems almost a certainty before the end of this season. The number 13 spot belongs to Mookie Blaylock with 2,075. Depending on how much longer Russell plays, it is possible.
And in case you're counting, he also added yet another triple-double in the follow-up loss to the Pacers. He's still the all-time leader with 207, with Oscar Robertson in second and Nikola Jokic in third. Joker is catching up, but Brodie just keeps adding to his total.
All of these records and lists may seem like distractions, but they do matter. They give Sactown fans something to celebrate in what has been an incredibly tough season. Plus, Westbrook deserves to be celebrated. He is a first ballot Hall of Famer with a legendary career, and has certainly earned that.
