There's no covering up how bad a season the Sacramento Kings had. It just kind of is what it is at this point. That being said, there were some bright spots, including Russell Westbrook who hit a number of personal milestones on the court this season while happily wearing a purple jersey.
While it's true that Westbrook has yet to win an NBA Championship, and is unlikely to with the Kings, he's the first to point out there's more to a great career than that. Plus, a lot of intangibles beyond a single player's control have to fall in place to win a chip. It could still happen for Brodie, though.
Regardless, he has had an absolutely legendary career so far, one that makes him worthy of the GOAT debate as well as a spot in the Hall of Fame. The best part is his career isn't over yet, even though he'll be going into season 19 in the fall. If LeBron James can go 23 seasons, so can Westbrook.
Looking at how Brodie played this season, he's definitely got more gas in the tank than pundits gave him credit for. After taking over as the Kings' starting point guard, Westbrook found another gear, added to his triple-double total, and hit some major benchmarks along the way.
Westbrook makes the most of his time in Sacramento
During the course of 2025-2026, Westbrook kept adding to his totals in a variety of categories according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line. First off, Westbrook made his 6000th career free throw this season, and is now 21st on the all-time list with a total of 6,109.
He also collected his 10,000th career assist and finished the season with a career total of 10,351. He's fifth all-time. Not enough? Westbrook also picked up his 2000th career steal, closing out 2025-2026 with a career total of 2,038. He had 83 this season across 64 games played.
In case you're worried about his triple-doubles, Brodie kept that train rolling. He got his 200th this season, added several more to his collection, and remains in first with 209. Nikola Jokic has 198, and is knocking on the door of first place in that stat category. He'll likely take it next season.
On top of that, Westbrook also jumped a few spots on the All-Time Points Leaders list. He now sits at 14 with a current total of 27,176. Seeing one of the greatest to ever play the game continue to add to his legend was definitely a highlight of this season. Hopefully, the Kings keep him around for more.
