It's an odd trade deadline season because there are big players and lots of rumors, and little movement so far. The Sacramento Kings are in the middle of it, with a new proposed trade linking them with the Portland Trail Blazers. The idea is intriguing for both sides and has real potential.

The crew over at Sactown Sports 1140 has been talking a lot about the Kings and the trade deadline. To be fair, everyone who covers the Kings is wrapped up in that topic. Sacramento is right in the thick of it with rumors surrounding Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, and many more.

On a recent episode, they proposed the idea of a major trade between the Kings and the Blazers. Basically, the Kings would get Matisse Thybulle, Robert Williams III, and a lottery-protected first-round pick. DeMar DeRozan and Keon Ellis would head to Portland in exchange.

What's interesting about this idea is that it's actually quite practical and could be beneficial to both teams. Plus, it likely wouldn't require a third team to pull off. Keeping that in mind, it's worth looking at the details to really see how it would play out, especially for the Sacramento Kings.

Kings and Blazers could make good trade partners

If Sacramento needs help in one part of its game, that would be defense, and Matisse Thybulle is one of the most unorthodox and low-key effective defenders in the NBA. That being said, his offensive impact is limited at best. Still, the Kings need more dedicated defenders on the team.

Then there's Robert Williams III, an elite rim protector, defender, and lob threat. While the Kings have no shortage of centers, the man nicknamed Time Lord also plays power forward, and Sacramento desperately needs support in that position. It could be an interesting duo for the Kings.

Picking up DeMar DeRozan, aka the mid-range maestro, could be huge for the Blazers, particularly once Damian Lillard returns. They would have a pair of incredible shooters. The big question is Keon Ellis. The Blazers have several players who already fill his role, so they may not be as interested in him.

Overall, this is a really solid idea. It's strategic, won't cost the Kings a lot of money, and will help them move forward in the rebuild process. That being said, there has yet to be any indication from Portland that they're interested in this move. It's still fun to play out the theory, though.
