After years of being down in the dumps, the Sacramento Kings are working hard to try and recreate the success they experienced back in the early 2000s (and hopefully, they go a step further than even those teams).

But it looks like their basketball team is not the only thing the Kings are trying to revitalize this season.

The death and rebirth of the Pac-12

The end of last season was one of sorrow, as 8 of the twelve teams in the Pac-12 were leaving to join new conferences. USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington migrated over to the Big 10. Meanwhile, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and Arizona State went to the Big 12. Functionally speaking, the Pac-12 was no more.

With that said, while the conference was no longer what it was in its glory days, there were still four teams left (Stanford, California, Oregon State, and Washington State). And it looks like the conference is trying to make a comeback.

This year, the Pac-12 has announced the addition of six new teams (so far). For those wondering, those teams are Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah State, and UNLV. Now, the Pac-12 is up to ten teams again.

The Sacramento Kings are helping rebuild the Pac-12

This is cool and all, but why are we writing about this on A Royal Pain – a basketball website?

Well, on Wednesday, it was announced that the Kings have offered to host Sacramento State University men's and women's basketball games at Golden 1 Center (the home of the Kings) – so long as the arena availability works out.

This is huge because it gives Sacramento State a domain to house their basketball games and a great one at that. This will make their transition into the Pac-12 that much easier. If their transition is easier, then that is one less team to worry about and one less obstacle that the Pac-12 has to hurdle to return to their former glory.

If the Pac-12 does make a comeback, the Kings will be partially to thank for it.
