The NBA Three-Point Contest is one of the events held each year since 1986 on the Saturday before the All-Star Game. It features some of the best shooters in the league, who try to make as many three-pointers from different positions on the court as possible in seventy seconds.

The contest first starts with a qualifying round in which each participant has a chance to score as many points as possible and secure a spot in the finals. The three players with the top scores move on, shooting once again to determine a winner, but this time in ascending order of their previously scored points.

At first, the maximum score possible was 30 points. In 2014, moneyballs were added, making the best possible score 34. As of 2020, when two Mountain Dew shots worth three points each were added and the time limit was raised from one minute to seventy seconds, the highest possible score is 40.

Some notable milestones

-Larry Bird, who won the first-ever contest, and Craig Hodges hold the record for most consecutive wins with three.

-Kyrie Irving is the youngest winner ever at age 20.

-Jason Kapono is the last back-to-back winner, beating his competition in 2007 and 2008.

-Karl-Anthony Towns is the only center to ever win, scoring 29 points in 2022.

Have Sacramento Kings players ever won the contest?

The Sacramento Kings currently have a total of three wins. Peja Stojakovic won twice in 2002 and 2003. Buddy Hield then won again in 2020.

Last season, Kevin Huerter represented the Kings in Salt Lake City but did not win.
