1. Harrison Barnes

Harrison Barnes’ role on this Kings’ squad  has been a cause for frustration among fans ever since last season’s playoffs. Barnes has an inexplicable tendency to disappear offensively, especially in big games, and his defense is not great consistently either.

Coach Brown has defended the veteran plenty of times this season, explaining that he has a difficult role to play, as he has to find ways to impact the game without the ball in his hands. Besides, the Kings simply do not have a better option. Their wing depth is almost non-existent, and it has been a problem.

Ideally, the Kings need a starting-level 3-and-D player on the wing, and if that becomes available, Barnes will probably be on the move. The front office has made the trio of Barnes, Kevin Huerter, and Davion Mitchell available on the trade market before, and not much has changed since then.

Defense is still one of the team’s biggest issues, and Barnes’ contract would still likely have to be included in a deal for a bigger name that can help the Kings get to the next level. This starting lineup seems to have stalled out, and Barnes and Huerter are the weakest links. At least one of them will probably start the 2024-25 season in a different city.
