3. Davion Mitchell

The former lottery pick’s development has not gone according to plan. In his third NBA season, Davion Mitchell is averaging the fewest minutes, points, and assists of his career. Despite relentless work in the offseason, his three-point shot has not translated to games yet, and Keon Ellis has been breathing down his neck all season long.

More than once, the former two-way player took Mitchell’s minutes and played well. Even now, after Mitchell just had one of his best games of the season in Minnesota, many fans prefer to see Ellis on the court. He is active defensively, taller than Mitchell, and a better three-point shooter.

The Kings’ front office has shown the willingness to move Mitchell before. Over the summer, it might very well happen. Sacramento needs lengthy 3-and-D players around De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, and Mitchell does not fit that mood.

He is still a young player with great defensive potential, however, and could be an interesting trade chip in the Kings’ hunt for the missing piece. Mitchell might be packaged with other players, like Kevin Huerter and/or Harrison Barnes, to bring in a bigger name or moved in a smaller deal to bolster the team’s supporting cast. Either way, we might not see Mitchell in a Kings’ uniform for much longer.
