Team #2: San Antonio Spurs

Now, here is a team that better fits the ideal landing spot we outlined for Huerter in the previous page. At a glance, the San Antonio Spurs may look like a worse defense than the Bulls (22nd in defensive rating). But when Victor Wembanyama was on the court, the Spurs were in the 75th percentile in defensive rating (per Cleaning the Glass).

Last season, the Spurs were being a bit cautious with Wembanyama, limiting him to under 30 minutes per game. This year, look for more minutes and more growth from Wembanyama, which should lead to some better defense. This will make it much easier to swallow any negatives that Huerter may be responsible for when he's on the floor.

On the flip side, the Spurs are going to NEED some shooting. Last year, they finished 28th in 3-point percentage (34.7%), and they didn't really do much this offseason to remedy that concern. The team's best shooter from last year – Cedi Osman – left the NBA for Greece. So, now, their only reliable options are Devin Vassell and (maybe) Keldon Johnson.

Huerter would give the team an immediate boost in that regard, and he would have a point guard (or should we say Point God) there to set him up with easy looks in Chris Paul. Plus, he'd be reunited with his Kings brother Harrison Barnes (who, as I type this, is also a pretty good spacer when you think about it).
