On Wednesday, it was announced that the Sacramento Kings signed Doug McDermott. This move did not come as a surprise, as many people expected the team to add a new player after the Kings traded Jalen McDaniels to the San Antonio Spurs to add cap space.

However, the fact that the player was McDermott did raise some questions. While not as good of a player as Kevin Huerter, McDermott does fall under the same player archetype as Huerter (great shooters who are below average defenders). So, technically speaking, the Kings can now look to move Huerter to address a different need on their roster (they could use another two-way wing/forward).

These rumors took on a whole new life after this picture from a Halloween party surfaced on social media.

Doug McDermott is literally trying to be Kevin Huerter

On Friday, it was reported that McDermott was going to dress up as Huerter for the Kings' Halloween party, and on Saturday, this photograph was posted on Twitter (I refuse to call it "X").

This photograph is objectively hilarious. And to be fair, in no way does this make a Huerter trade any more/less likely. At the end of the day, McDermott probably just has a close relationship with Huerter and thought it would be funny to dress up as his buddy. Plus, Huerter does have a cartoonish way about him (probably the headband) that makes him someone who is easy to dress up as for Halloween.

Are the Sacramento Kings going to trade Kevin Huerter?

I'm not sure. On one hand, Huerter is becoming more and more of a redundancy on this team (and the team isn't good enough to have too many overlapping skillsets). The Kings already have a logjam at shooting guard, and now that they have McDermott, they have someone who can really get hot from downtown.

On the other hand, Huerter's value is at an all-time low, coming off a down season. Maybe the Kings want to hold on to him to see if he can't rekindle some of the magic from his 2022-23 campaign.
