A lot of topics came up during Scott Perry's recent press conference about the future of the Sacramento Kings after the trade deadline. One player Perry specifically brought up by name was Devin Carter, highlighting him as a young guy he wants to see more from as the rebuild grows.

While it's been a rough season for the Kings, a major point of positivity and hope for the future has been the rookies on the team. Maxime Raynaud flourished in the two-month absence of Domantas Sabonis and has become a bankable young five for Sacramento, off the bench and as a starter.

It's not just Raynaud, either. Nique Clifford is starting to find his rhythm as a scorer and playmaker as he pushes to find his aggression on the court. On top of that, Dyland Cardwell has established himself as one of the top rookie defenders in the league. It's been great to watch.

The other side of that is that other young players have fallen through the cracks. That includes Devin Carter, a second-year guard who has struggled to find minutes this season. As Perry acknowledged during his presser, the logjam at the guard positions in Sacramento is all too real.

Devin Carter's future with the Kings is looking brighter

With the Kings trading Keon Ellis and Dennis Schroder, Sacramento now has two fewer guards on the roster. That being said, new acquisition De'Andre Hunter is technically classified as a forward/guard, though the Kings brought him in more for his skills as a defender than a scorer.

The point is that there's actually some daylight in the guard positions, meaning that there may be opportunities to get Carter on the court more. That's something that Perry made mention of during his press conference, specifically highlighting Devin as a player he wants to see more of.

From Perry's viewpoint, it's hard to make decisions about roster members you don't know as much about. He hasn't seen a lot of Carter's game because Carter doesn't play all that much. It's time to get him off the bench, particularly alongside other young players, and see how he fits in.

Maybe Scott Perry will end up trading him or not exercising their team option. It also might mean that the Kings see the value he brings to the rebuild, and finally put Devin Carter to work. Regardless of how it pans out, it's nice to know that the Kings' organization hasn't forgotten about him.
