Most mock drafts have the Sacramento Kings going after a new point guard, which isn't a shock. While names like Darius Acuff Jr. keep coming up, there are other choices out there. Another interesting choice for the Kings would be Christian Anderson, a Big 12 point guard out of Texas Tech.
Anderson was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, making his hometown team the Hawks. There are a few mock drafts out there projecting that he actually gets picked by Atlanta at 23. Considering how good the Hawks have been looking this season, it would be a great time for him to get added in.
Atlanta isn't the only team attached to him, though. Other mock drafts have him going to the Grizzlies, the Raptors, or possibly the Timberwolves. FanSided's post-combine mock draft is on the Hawks bandwagon when it comes to Anderson, a move that has a lot of potential for both sides.
So far, Anderson is projected to get drafted with picks ranging from 16th to 28th, depending on the team. Being that the Kings have picks at seventh, 34th, and 45th, it seems unlikely that they would use their first rounder for him or that he will still be available for their second rounders.
Anderson is a great option for the Kings if he falls in the draft
The reality is that draft projections are not set in stone, and the further they get from the top three or four, the less accurate those projections get. Always remember that these are predictions, not spoilers. As such, Anderson could still be hanging around in the second round for the Kings to pick.
This isn't meant to be an insult to Anderson, but taking him at seventh doesn't seem likely. There are a lot of big players to choose from at that point. And general manager Scott Perry has been clear that he'll be drafting based on the caliber of player, not position. Still, there's a chance to get Anderson.
While he has some serious defensive issues, he's also a lights-out shooter and an elite shot-creator. Head coach Doug Christie's focus is on defense, but they still need points to win the game. Anderson could be a solid scorer off the bench while Christie works on developing his defense.
All of that would require Anderson to take a rapid slide, down to at least the 34th pick. It's unlikely, but not unheard of in the draft. At the very least, Anderson is definitely worth the Kings keeping an eye on if he's still available and their preferred second-round options do not pan out.
