The Kings' offseason was a strange one for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, they didn't make many big moves, either bringing people in or moving them out.
To be fair, the front office was reportedly trying to trade both DeMar DeRozan and Malik Monk, but there were no takers. In the case of Monk, that's a good thing considering it was an ill-advised trade.
Second, the few moves the Kings actually made did little to combat their unbalanced roster. Bringing in players like Jonathan Kuminga and Kelly Oubre Jr. might have fixed that.
Building a better Kings' roster
Jonathan Kuminga is a potentially elite athlete who plays both power forward and small forward. While can be inconsistent due to his age and relative inexperience, Kuminga remains an explosive scorer who attacks the basket in the fast break with efficiency.
On the other hand, Kelly Oubre Jr. is a small forward and shooting guard. He brings a strong defensive sensibility to the court while also getting aggressive on offense.
Both players are young with room to grow and evolve, something the Kings definitely need. In particular, Kuminga and Oubre would help balance the Kings' roster.
The reality for Oubre and Kuminga
Oubre has made it quite clear that he isn't happy in Philadelphia. Regardless, there have yet to be any firm moves from him or the Sixers on a departure. The Warriors have been at an impasse with Kuminga for months, though they have recently offered him a new, big money contract.
Like Oubre, the bigger issue is happiness. Kuminga wants to play and wants a stable spot on the roster. Money is one thing but the Warriors need to utilize him better if they want him to sign.
A revamped Kings' team could offer both Oubre and Kuminga the opportunity to start fresh in a new city. While it isn't likely to happen, the Kings adding them to the roster improves their depth while offering new lineup opportunities and scoring threats.
Again, it's not likely but it would be huge for the Kings faithful.
