The Kings need a bold trade to build off

When it comes to Domantas Sabonis, it's time for the Kings to start making moves. The All-Star center is the best rebounder in the league, one of the best passing big men around, and a heck of a scorer. He's the core of the Sacramento Kings and the default face of the franchise.

Unfortunately, the front office has absolutely dropped the ball on building a contender around Sabonis. The lack of playmaking and defensive focus on the team has led to a serious imbalance. That's only gotten worse since De'Aaron Fox was traded, weakening the roster.

Sabonis is going into his first full season without Fox but with both DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine. Plus, EuroBasket champion Dennis Schroeder is on the roster. This could be a make-or-break season for Sabonis on the Kings because if it doesn't work out, someone needs to move on.

Sabonis may leave the Kings

If the 2024-2025 season doesn't go well, the Kings will likely start looking at a full rebuild. Even Sabonis, someone most people assume is number one on the Kings' no-trade list, will be on the proverbial chopping block. His trade value isn't what most think it is, but he's still Sabonis.

To be frank, Domantas might welcome a trade at this point. This will be his fourth season in Sacramento, with little stability and no sign of it getting better any time soon. A team like the Lakers that desperately needs a solid center might welcome a trade for the star.

Whether it's his decision or the team's, this season will likely be the deciding factor in how much longer Sabonis remains a King. It would be a shame to see him go, but both the player and the franchise may need the opportunity to open their horizons and grow.
