With their loss last night to the Wizards, the Sacramento Kings have dropped nine straight and are officially on their longest slide of 2025-2026. They are at the lowest point of a season that is going to get a lot worse before it ends, and hopefully leads to something much, much better for Sactown.
This hasn't exactly been a great season for the Kings. They currently have a record of 12 and 39, putting them firmly in last place in both the Western Conference and the entire league. Any hopes of even glimpsing the postseason are long gone at this point, as the team would have to pull a 180.
Sacramento has had a few losing streaks, with the longest being eight games. That was until the Kings narrowly lost to the Wizards last night by a score of 116 to 112. This extended their current losing streak to nine, officially making it their longest of the season.
It's not a goal anyone wanted to see the Kings reach, yet it was pretty much unavoidable for the team. They are an imbalanced team suffering from multiple injuries that just cannot seem to find any kind of rhythm as a group. This is what a rebuilding season looks like for an NBA team.
The Kings will still get worse this season
It's important to understand that this situation isn't going to get significantly better, even if they manage to snap this losing streak. The rebuild means there will likely be more trades in the next few days, and that the roster will continue to go through a lot of upheaval.
Sacramento walked into the game with Domantas Sabonis, Keegan Murray, and Russell Westbrook on the bench. Keon Ellis and Dennis Schroder have left for the Cavs, while Dario Saric is now in Chicago. And the Kings' new player, De'Andre Hunter, isn't on the court yet.
As the Kings make more trades before the deadline, Sacramento will keep running into similar issues while players transition between teams. The Kings will be disjointed and off balance for the rest of the season, if not longer. That's just part of the process in a long-term project like this rebuild.
Knowing that doesn't make the current situation any less difficult for the players and the fans. It will all hopefully work out in the long-term, but seeing the Kings being in such a dire situation right now is insane, particularly when they are on a losing streak that's likely to get much longer.
