The Sacramento Kings have made it clear that they are interested in a few things this offseason. They would love to add a draft pick in the 20s, and they would also like to improve their backcourt by acquiring a point guard. Some potential moves featuring DeMar DeRozan may help with the draft pick, but where will they go for the guard?
The trade season is a chance for teams to feast upon the remains of struggling teams, and that is exactly what the Kings may do. They are currently looking at the Utah Jazz, sizing up their options, and envisioning how their roster can improve if Utah looks to shake up its team.
The Kings have a couple options coming from the Jazz
According to new reporting from Brett Seigel of ClutchPoints, the Kings are now being linked to both Jordan Clarkson and Collin Sexton of the Jazz. Siegel said that the Jazz are listening to offers on multiple players right now, and the Kings are just one of the teams taking a good, hard look at Clarkson and Sexton.
These are two combo guards who could work in either the point guard or shooting guard positions. Plus, they aren't going to be that expensive because they are on expiring deals next season. The Kings would have to cover $19 million for Sexton or $14.3 million for Clarkson.
Clarkson has been in the league for years and comes with a bit more damage to his body, which should be noted by the Kings. He only played in 37 games last season because of an injury, but put up 16.2 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.2 rebounds during that time.
As for Sexton, he averaged 18.4 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.7 rebounds. The most intriguing thing about Sexton is that he's a talented three-point shooter, landing 40.6 percent of his shots from deep last season. This is definitely a very attractive feature to the Kings.
Sacramento should really consider pursuing either Clarkson or Sexton because they are proven, they are talented, and they aren't expensive. And because of their contracts, the Kings don't have to make a big commitment, just in case it doesn't work out.
If the Kings really are serious about getting backcourt help, they need to be strategic and smart. Going after Clarkson or Sexton could be exactly the right move for Sacramento, and they should definitely keep the Jazz on speed dial.
