After letting every point guard who isn't Darius Acuff Jr. walk, the Sacramento Kings have signed Sean Pedulla to their final two-way contract. The young point guard could be key for development, but also important right now as a backup for Acuff. Pedulla is going to get a lot of minutes right away.

If you don't know who Pedulla is, he's a 24-year-old point guard who spent four seasons in college between Virginia and Ole Miss. He went undrafted in 2025 before joining the Rip City Remix, the Trail Blazers' G League affiliate, before spending the rest of the 2025-2026 season with the Clippers.

It was actually an incredibly good season for Pedulla as he took home the NBA G League Rookie of the Year honors. He averaged 28.1 minutes per game, collecting 20.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.5 steals. Those are good-looking numbers for a rookie in the G League or the NBA.

Unfortunately, they apparently weren't good enough for the Clippers to keep him. Pedulla would then go on to sign a two-way contract with the Rockets through the preseason, but was waived as part of final roster cuts. Now, Pedulla is on a two-way contract with the Kings, and they honestly need him.

Pedulla fills an important role in Sacramento

Throughout the last several weeks, the Kings have been cutting point guards like crazy. The most recent one was Adam Flagler, a promising combo guard. This situation was exacerbated by Ben Simmons' season-ending injury. He was partially brought in to back up Acuff.

If the Kings hang on to Pedulla and don't do something insane like cutting him out of the blue, he could be an excellent secondary for Acuff. Pedulla is a young playmaker with a good outside shot who would be a solid insurance point guard behind Acuff. Unfortunately, they have similar flaws.

Neither Acuff nor Pedulla is particularly good on defense. Acuff is highly focused on offense over defense, while Pedulla's size makes him a target for the other team when he's on defense. They both bring good offense, but the Sacramento and Stockton Kings will have to plan around their issues.

For now, expect Pedulla to get big minutes in the G League as the Kings continue his development. Having another young, dedicated point guard in the pipeline is a smart move. That being said, Sacramento has one regular contract available and should fill it with a more experienced PG.
