A couple of weeks ago, the Sacramento Kings made some sweeping changes to their coaching staff (not to the top spot, though), firing five of their assistants from the 2024-25 NBA season. The list of cuts included Jawad Williams and their lead assistant, Jay Triano.

We know for sure that one of those spots will be filled by Mike Woodson – an NBA Champion and one of the most well-decorated names on the market. Still, there are plenty of spots to be filled, and one of them may be taken by a former fan favorite.

Bobby Jackson could join Doug Christie's coaching staff

On Thursday, it was reported by Hoops Hype NBA Insider Michael Scotto that the Kings are looking at adding Bobby Jackson to Doug Christie's staff.

Jackson spent a dozen seasons in the NBA, including six with the Kings. Jackson averaged 10.6 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 2.2 APG, and 1.0 SPG on 53.2% true shooting during his time in Sacramento. Last summer, Sactown Sports called Jackson the 12th-best player to play for the team since they moved to Sacramento.

Jackson has been coaching since 2011. He had two prior stints with this organization. Jackson was an assistant for the NBA team from 2011-13, and he was also the G-League head coach for the Stockton Kings from 2021-23. Jackson spent the last two years as an assistant with thePhiladelphia 76ers.

Last week, it was reported by Kings' Insider Sean Cunningham that Jackson was expected to reunite with the squad, but it seems that this transaction hasn't officially taken place yet.

During his playing days, Jackson was what you would call a combo guard. He could fill up the scoreboard, and he could give you some playmaking off the bench. Funny enough, Jackson would be the second former player on the staff to be part of this player archetype.

Leandro Barbosa, a former 14-year NBA veteran who has been with the team since 2022, has survived the firings and will remain with the team. Jackson and Barbosa figure to make great mentors for Malik Monk – one of the most dynamic combo guards in the league.
