For years, the Sacramento Kings were viewed as the epitome of a poorly run sports organization, going 16 years without even sniffing the playoffs (the longest drought in NBA history).

That ended in 2022-23 when head coach Mike Brown led the Kings to 48 wins and their first playoff berth since 2006. He followed that up with a 46-win season in 2023-24. One that nearly netted them another playoff appearance (they were literally one win away).

Unfortunately, the Kings decided to reward their most successful coach of the last decade and a half by firing him after a rough start to the season.

At first, everyone was shell shocked. However, more information has come out that explains some of what went down, and it points to the Kings being back to their old, incompetent ways.

The Sacramento Kings are back to being a joke

On Monday, ESPN Insider Ramona Shelburne came out with an article summarizing all that she had heard regarding the situation. In it, Shelburne talked about how the Kings were trying their hardest not to fire Brown. In fact, according to Shelburne, none of the Big Three (De'Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis, and DeMar DeRozan) were even consulted about the decision. They wanted to make this all work. But when they couldn't find a trade, they felt they had to let him go.

Meanwhile, on FanDuel's flagship NBA show, Run It Back, Lou Williams shared the information he had collected from his sources around the league. His reporting included insights about how Brown had suggested moving DeRozan to the bench and how Fox was growing sick of being singled out by Brown in practice.

Williams' comments led to Fox clapping back, denying all the allegations that have been made about his relationship with Brown and the rift that was said to exist between them (Williams has since clapped back at him). Here is his tweet:

Needless to say, this all looks very rough for the Kings. Why are you running with the narrative that no one wanted Brown fired? Obviously, someone had to have wanted it, or else it wouldn't have happened.

Also, why would you punish Brown strictly because you could not make a trade? The worst part about this piece of information is that all the names listed in that first tweet (outside of maybe Kyle Kuzma) would not fix the imbalances on this Kings' roster.

Now, Brown may have been on to something with the idea that DeRozan should have been moved to the bench. But as for the rest of this information, it's just another chapter in what is the comedic tragedy that is the Sacramento Kings.
