Is Kevin Huerter playing against the Los Angeles Lakers? Full Sacramento Kings injury report
By Mat Issa
After a narrow defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves in their season opener, the Sacramento Kings look to enter the win column in their second game of the year against the Los Angeles Lakers. But who will they have available to them? And who will be missing? In this post, we discuss all the injury storylines for both the Kings and Lakers.
Sacramento Kings Injury Update
The biggest injury news is the status of Kevin Huerter (shoulder). After missing the last 15 games of the 2023-24 season with injury (17 if you count the play-in), Huerter did not see a second of action during the preseason. This left many to wonder what the sharpshooter's status would be for the season opener.
Fortunately, Huerter was able to play in the season opener, even retaining his starting spot over Keon Ellis (who was filling in for Huerter during his absence). Here at A Royal Pain, we don't think this was the best decision, but that's a different story for a different post (this post, to be exact).
Huerter had a quiet return – scoring two points on 1-for-4 shooting in just 19.5 minutes of action. Against the Lakers, Huerter's name does not even show up on the injury report. So, he will have a chance to improve on his slow start in his second game back from injury.
As for the names that are on the report, the Kings will continue to be without their 2024 first round pick, Devin Carter (shoulder), and their free agent acquisition, Orlando Robinson (MCL).
Los Angeles Lakers Injury Update
Unfortunately for the Lakers, their injury list is a lot longer. Christian Wood (knee), Jarred Vanderbilt (foot), Christian Koloko (conditioning), and Jalen Hood-Schifino (illness) will all be out for this game.
Cam Reddish missed the Lakers Friday night game against the Phoenix Suns for personal reasons. Given the quick turnaround of this game (it's a back-to-back for the Lakers), it seems unlikely that Reddish will play in this game. ESPN's injury report currently has his status listed as "day-to-day."
Jaxson Hayes showed up on the injury report against the Suns for left foot soreness. However, he ended up logging 17.5 minutes in that game, and he is no longer on the injury report now. So, expect him to play in this game.
