If the Sacramento Kings season wasn't bad enough, injuries just keep preventing the team from finding any kind of rhythm or momentum. It was recently announced that Domantas Sabonis will miss the rest of the season while breakout rookie star Dylan Cardwell will be out for at least 14 games.
Coming into the 2025-2026 season, no one was seriously predicting anything good for the Kings. They had a new front office, a rookie head coach, and essentially the same imbalanced team from the season before. Plus, said front office made no substantial moves to improve the situation.
Frankly, Sacramento has exceeded all expectations, and not in a good way. As bad as people thought this season was going to go, it has been so much worse. The All-Star break is over today, and the Kings remain the worst team in the league, riding a 14-game losing streak. It's unlikely to improve.
A major reason as to why the Kings have done so badly is the endless string of injuries that plague Sacramento. Several players have had extended absences on top of the cavalcade of minor injuries that caused shorter amounts of time away. Somehow, things have gotten worse.
The Kings are bascially falling apart at this point
It was recently announced that Zach LaVine would miss the rest of the season to recover from finger surgery. Now, Domantas Sabonis has had season-ending surgery on the torn meniscus in his left knee that previously kept him on the bench for two straight months.
On top of that, Dylan Cardwell picked up a sprained ankle in practice on Tuesday that will keep him sidelined for at least 14 games. He will be re-evaluated in about a month, and a decision on how to proceed with his recovery will be made at that time. Just don't rush him back if you don't have to.
De'Andre Hunter is also still out due to the eye injury he sustained during his second game with the team. Prior to the break, other players like Russell Westbrook and Malik Monk were both out of commission as well, but should hopefully be good to go for the Kings' return to the court.
The only official positive news is that Keegan Murray is likely returning to the lineup tonight against the Orlando Magic after missing 20 games. While that's great, the 2025-2026 season is a wash for the Kings. They only have 26 games left, and little hope of picking up more wins with all these injuries.
