As it turns out, the player everyone loves to hate will be a free agent at the end of 2026-2027. Assuming the Phoenix Suns don't re-sign Dillon Brooks, the Sacramento Kings should seriously consider taking a shot at adding him to their roster. It's hard to replicate the confidence he brings.
Brooks is an antagonist on the court, and he knows it. He stirs the pot, aggravates the other team, and completely distracts them. The man has been living in LeBron James' head rent-free for years. Brooks even went so far as to buy a courtside ticket in the 2026 playoffs to mess with James.
It's important to remember that Brooks is actually a damn good basketball player. Dillon the Villain is known for his versatile, point-of-attack defense combined with explosive scoring. His offense has been steadily improving over the past few years, but defense is the name of his game.
More than that, Brooks is a culture-setter. He operates with a level of swagger that is infectious to the locker room. Neither the Grizzlies nor the Rockets have been the same without him. Since his contract with the Suns is almost up, maybe the Kings could be his next destination.
Brooks on the Kings makes a lot of sense
Sacramento is in the process of building a new roster based on youth and defense. Brooks is 30, but he is a highly effective wing with a strong focus on defense. Plus, this developing team needs confidence in their game, and Brooks had no shortage of that. He could help them level up quickly.
The Kings could wait until his contract expires and go for it. There's also the option of engineering a trade deadline move with the Suns, built on the core of dealing Zach LaVine in exchange for the Villain himself. It's a plan that could work out well for Phoenix in the long run.
Phoenix needs a shooter like LaVine to space the floor alongside Devin Booker, Mark Williams, Jalen Green, Miles Bridges, and Collin Gillespie. He would add something to their dynamic. And because he's on the tail end of his current contract, they have flexibility on how long LaVine's tenure is.
There are probably a few people who would be mad to see Brooks on the Kings, some of whom play for the team. But once they actually work with him and see what he brings to the table, that all changes. Dillon the Villain is the kind of guy you want to play with, not against.
