Most paths to and within the NBA are not straight lines, nor are they the same for every player. People change NBA teams, play in the G-League, and then head overseas, sometimes all in one year.

This has been the case for Terence Davis, a Kings alum who played for the team during the heights of the 2022-2023 Beam Team season. Now, his path has diverged from Sacramento's.

Davis made a brief return to Sacramento at the end of the 2024-2025 season. He was only on the roster for the last three games of the regular season and played roughly eight minutes in one game.

Terence Davis' journey

Davis joined the Toronto Raptors in 2019 as an undrafted player, after their championship season and just in time for the bubble season. He stayed with the franchise until he was traded to the Kings in 2021.

He would go on to spend just over two seasons in Sacramento and became part of the 2022-2023 run. Terence's best game with the team was against the Brooklyn Nets in November 2022. He picked up 31 points, nine rebounds, and three steals, a respectable showing by anyone's standards.

In 2023, he was waived for the first time by the Kings and bounced around the G-League for a couple of years. Davis returned to the Kings to close out the 2024-2025 season only to be waived again before his contract kicked in on day one of the 2025-2026 season.

Terence Davis for Russell Westbrook

There are two factors that likely came into the decision to waive Davis. First and foremost, the Kings have too many guards and not enough minutes to go around. The math was not in his favor.

Beyond that is the obsession the Kings' front office has with getting Russell Westbrook on the roster. Attempts to trade other players like Malik Monk to make room have been fruitless. Taking Davis out of the equation makes that roster space.

Following the departure of Davis, it won't be surprising to see the Kings announce signing Westbrook. Only time will tell if that move pans out.
