Fans of the league often accuse the NBA of biasing toward certain franchises, and while some of those claims can be overblown, it is fair to say that they do have teams they like more than others.
Unfortunately for the Sacramento Kings, they are not one of those teams. In fact, one could argue that they are not only not one of the NBA's favorite teams. They are one of the runts of the litter.
For instance, despite historically playing well on Christmas Day, have not played in a Christmas Day game in 21 years. That is the longest drought of any team outside of the Charlotte Hornets. But even Hornets fans can't be as upset as us because they have only existed for 35 years (over half as long as the Kings/Royals).
And now, the league's upcoming unofficial midseason classic serves as another reminder of how they feel toward the Kings.
No Sacramento Kings are participating in the 2025 All-Star Weekend
On Friday, the league will begin a six day break. During part of that stretch (from Friday, February 14 to Sunday, February 16), the NBA will host their 74th All-Star weekend.
This year's iteration of the weekend is filled with tantalizing events, including the Celebrity Game, Rising Stars Challenge, Skills Challenge, 3-Point Contest, Slam Dunk Contest, and, of course, the All-Star game to put the bow on top of it all.
Unfortunately, fans of the Kings will not have anyone on their team to root for. Of the five events that a Kings player could have been part of (no current NBA players compete in the Celebrity Game), not a single player from the Kings got the nod.
How uncommon is that? Well, this season, the Kings are the only team with no one representing them during All-Star weekend. The Philadelphia 76ers also technically don't have anyone participating in the weekend festivities. However, rookie guard Jared McCain was selected to be part of the Rising Stars Challenge. He just can't compete because of his knee injury.
Was anyone on the Kings snubbed from an event?
The worst part about all of this is that the Kings do have a couple of guys worthy of participating in all the fun. The most obvious one is Domantas Sabonis, who many people believe was snubbed from the All-Star team for the second straight season.
However, even if you take that away, he and Malik Monk would have been a great teammate pairing for the Skills Challenge.
Outside of the two of them, Devin Carter may have gotten the chance to play in the Rising Stars Challenge if he hadn't missed so much time with injury.
