Going into the 2026-2027 NBA season, the Sacramento Kings aren't getting much respect. Part of the rebuild is changing that. While there remains a lot of work to do and more big changes on the way, there are players on this roster right now who will help change the Kings' status in the league.
That means Sacramento is going to have to put work into their development, not to mention building a team around them. These existing players will be the foundation of the rebuild. From there, everything else will come into focus and grow from there. Well, that's the plan, at least.
Dylan Cardwell
Cardwell's journey in the NBA from undrafted to a full contract in a matter of months was one of the most inspiring stories last season. He is a tenacious defender, particularly at the rim, which is something the Kings have lacked at center. On top of that, Cardwell is a culture-setter and a locker room leader. This is a player who will be a difference-maker for the Kings both on and off the court.
Maxime Raynaud
The rookie French center stepped in for an injured Domantas Sabonis in 2025-2026 and quickly climbed the ranks of last season's rookies. Now, it's time for him to prove that it wasn't a fluke and that he is the real deal. That shouldn't be a problem for Mad Max. He is ready to take the next step from being a top rookie to being one of the league's best big men.
Emanuel Sharp
Sacramento picked Sharp up in the second round of the 2026 NBA Draft. The Kings were already overloaded with shooting guards, but that will change later this season with the departure of Zach LaVine. Sharp has a reliable three-point shot as well as a solid defensive presence. He is someone who could grow into being a key rotational player for Sacramento.
Alex Karaban
Scott Perry put in a little extra work to make sure Karaban joined Sacramento in the last draft. The combo forward is a two-time NCAA champion who knows what it takes to win. Sacramento can play him as a power forward off the bench or put him on the wing as a starter with equal levels of impact. Karaban's versatility will be huge for the Kings.
Jonathan Mogbo
Possibly the smartest move the Kings made in the offseason was signing Mogbo to a two-way contract. The former Raptor is a talented young power forward who Perry was smart to get into Sacramento's pipeline. He shone brightly during the Summer League for the Kings. As soon as they have both the money and a spot available, they need to get Mogbo on a full contract.
