2. Christian Wood, PF/C
Focusing on a need for center depth, we look at Christian Wood. The 6’10” big man has been on a tear after a rough start to his career. The 27-year-old has played seven seasons in the NBA for seven different teams and is looking toward an eighth as he is an unrestricted free agent.
Coming off the bench for the Dallas Mavericks, Wood averaged 16.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game with 51/37/77 shooting splits. Christian Wood is the ideal stretch four with the tools to be a solid backup center.
With questions around Sacramento’s center rotation, Christian Wood would be a secure backup to Domantas Sabonis, as he can do everything Mike Brown might want from him. Christian Wood has spent his career improving on defense but still has work to do on that end. Wood could thrive in the right defensive scheme, which Mike Brown is known to provide.
Christian Wood is most impressive on offense, as his 37.6% from deep stands out the most for a 6’10” big man with a 7’3″ wingspan. This becomes more impressive when looking at his wide-open shooting, as he shoots 42.4% on open threes.
Wood can stretch the floor while providing valuable rebounding to a team that struggled on the boards last season.
The biggest question about Christian Wood is whether he would take a slight pay cut from last season to join the Sacramento Kings. Wood would be valuable to Sacramento’s desired championship run, so the Kings need to go after him.
